31 August 2023— To realize one Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi point, the Master Program in Linguistics Universitas Diponegoro conducted a community service engaged by seven lecturers and seven linguistics students. The target of this event is all students in grades 4, 5, and 6 in SD Kuncup Melati which is located in Jl. Gang Lombok No.60, Semarang with a total of 49 students.
This event begins with an opening speech by the Headmaster of SD Kuncup Melati, Mrs. Purwaningsih, S.Pd.; an opening speech by the Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Nurhayati, M.Hum.; and an opening speech by the Head of Master Program in Linguistics, Dr. Agus Subiyanto, M.A. This event was followed by giving a placard symbolically from the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities to the headmaster of SD Kuncup Melati. Then, the event was continued by courses interactively in each class guided by the lecturers and linguistics students.
Nowadays, Javanese culture—songs and traditional games have become extinct over time because of online play on gadgets. So, the theme of this community service is “Culture and Technology Literature (Culture Enrichment)”. The students were recognized for the Javanese songs and traditional games along with its maintenance effort.
They were very excited about the course and very active during the quiz section. Their bravery was shown when they were asked to sing traditional songs and perform traditional games, like Cublak-cublak Suweng. Through this activity, we hope that the students always preserve traditional Javanese culture in their daily lives, even though many challenges of social media and features of gadgets ahead.
