Dr. Yen Dang explained that the target of the Academic Spoken Word List (ASWL) study is learners’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP). So ASWL is very important to help language learners deal with lexical challenges in academic listening in their degree courses. She tends this study for learners of foreign or second language learning and teaching. Not only in academic listening but also she describes assessing vocabulary use in speaking and writing skills based on corpus linguistics. Furthermore, to do research about this scope, she mentions four steps. First, determine the reasons for making the list. Second, choosing or creating a relevant corpus. Third, deciding on the lexical units. Fourth, calssifying ASWL in some criteria, such as size and coverage; word families; word distributions, and adaptability to learners levels.
